How To Give a New Born Baby a Bath

Newborn babies don't get dirty very often, and they don't need to be bathed very often for their health. However, it's important for you to get your baby used to water so he or she will enjoy bathing and swimming in the future.

Buzz Buzz, it's time for bath time!
Newborn babies don't get very dirty and it is not necessary to bathe them every day. However, if you clean their bottom thoroughly when you change their diaper, twice a week is usually enough at first. Since small babies lose heat quickly, baths only last long enough to wipe off dirt or clean peeling skin. You don't need to shampoo your baby's hair - if they have any - with every bath.

You can clean your baby with a soft cloth or sponge, or just with your hands. When cleaning other parts of their body, you can put a warm, wet washcloth on their tummy to keep them warm and comfortable. Wipe your baby all over in turn, sponging off any peeling skin you see. Be sure to clean behind their ears, between their fingers and toes, under their arms and especially between the skin nodes on their neck and thighs where dirt collects. Do not take your eyes off your baby for even a second during bathing. Support his/her body and head during the bath and make sure he/she is safe, as he/she can easily slip into the water. If your baby's umbilical cord hasn't fallen off, you can quickly clean it with a soft baby sponge and warm water. You can then wrap your baby in a towel and dry their limbs one by one. This way you don't leave the remains of the umbilical cord too wet, which you should keep as dry as possible. After the umbilical cord has fallen off, your baby is ready for their first bath. Make sure to fill the baby bathtub with warm water 8 to 10 cm high and make sure that your baby's head and body are always safely supported by your arms. Always bathe your baby in a warm room and have a dry, clean towel ready to wrap around your baby immediately after bathing.
